Come winter and the environs transform to the land of festivals. The cold, dry weather comes as a bonus to wear your favourite jackets, blazers, hats and the rest. While winter is officially the party season of Bangalore, it comes with its cons. The dry winds rob our hair and skin of all the moisture and hydration leaving us itchy, scaly and dehydrated. Here are a few tips that will help you to combat the wintry winds this year.
Hydrating your whole body is the key to glowing while it’s snowing! Drink at least 2 to 2.5 litres of water daily. Include a lot of juices and vegetables in your diet. To keep your inside heated and your outside radiant, slightly increase your intake of good fats like almonds, pistachios and other nuts. Soak them in water all night and have them with your breakfast. Those who suffer from the problem of broken skin may include vitamin E supplements in their diet. Do consult a doctor before doing so.
Moisturise your skin
Use a shower crème instead of soap while taking a bath and always follow with a lotion within 3 minutes of stepping out of the shower. If you have to spend your day outside, use a lotion with SPF. Do not apply make-up directly on your face. First use a hydrating serum, then a moisturiser, a sunscreen and ultimately your foundation.
Winter night care
Do not forget to remove the pollution and make up from your skin as soon as you return home from work. Using an oil-based cleanser is the key to radiant skin even at the end of the day. At night, follow up with a luxurious night cream after applying a Vitamin E serum.
Hair care at home
Hair turns really brittle in winter and can break easily. Do not shampoo your hair too often and when you do always condition well. To nourish your strands at home, mix your favourite conditioner, olive oil and honey in the ratio 4:1:2. Cover all your post-shampoo damp strands with this mask. Keep it on for at least 20 minutes and wash off with water. Reduce the usage of styling tools to inflict minimal heat on your strands.
Salon hair care
Our hair goes through ‘n’ number of problems in winter. Breakage, itchy scalp, dandruff are to name a few. While a nourishing hair spa is a must every month, go for weekly hair conditioning treatments to nourish, densify, strengthen and illuminate your hair. Frizzy hair is at its worst in winter. Try kerato-protein treatments to battle frizz effectively.
What we ignore the most while caring for our appearance is our scalp. The skin on our scalp can dry out, become flaky and also age. While hot oil massage at home is not a bad idea at all, there are techniques that are unknown to us and we don’t have easy access to rare oils like argan, morocco oil or mythic oils. Oiling is a ritual best done at a salon. It strengthens hair and soothes the scalp making it healthier.
So, don’t wait. Rush to your nearest salon in Bangalore to look gorgeous this winter.
